Hank Brock, CPA, MBA, CLU, ChFC
Chartered Financial Consultant
Beginning in 1979, Hank built Brock and Associates, Inc., which was one of the country’s largest independent fee-based financial planning and small-business consulting firms, with headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1997 he sold most of his assets in the fifty-person firm while retaining certain sister companies (see below.) This fee-based financial consulting firm was also a Registered Investment Advisory firm with the SEC, and employed financial planners, attorneys, CPAs, MBAs, CFPs, Chartered Financial Consultants, and others to provide strategic financial and tax planning services to individuals, professionals, and business-owners.
Danny Brock, CRFA
Certified Retirement Financial Advisor
Daniel W. Brock, “Danny,” was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Salt Lake City, UT. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Business with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. Since 2004, Danny has worked with seniors providing comprehensive fee-based planning for retirees. He is a Certified Retirement Financial Advisor (CRFA), a program that emphasizes competency in retirement, tax, investments, and estate planning for seniors. He is also enrolled in the accredited Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) program at the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the most extensive financial planning credential in the industry.
Larry Brock
Associate Planner
Since 2004, Larry has worked in comprehensive retirement planning with seniors, having participated in hundreds of client meetings, both apprenticing and handling the affairs of numerous clients. He has completed the experience requirements and partially completed the educational requirements for the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) through the fully-accredited American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. This is the most extensive and rigorous financial planning training in the industry.
Scott Slater, ChFCAssociate Planner
Scott has an enthusiastic interest in helping people achieve their goals. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from California State University, Los Angeles in 1987. He used that education along with his skills working with glass to own and operate a successful glass company working with clients such as Paramount studios, Universal studios, Macy’s, and colleges such as Cal Tech and Cal Poly Pomona. He sold his glass company in 2004 and moved to St. George the following year. He is using this successful business experience to add to his practice in fee-based financial consulting.
Darrin M. Shemon, CRFACertified Retirement Financial Advisor
Darrin has invested himself in the client relationship business starting in 1989 while obtaining his bachelor's degree at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN. Since then he has served the financial needs of over 1,000 clients. In 2000 Darrin began his venture as a business owner starting his own mortgage broker company followed by starting another property management business in 2003 and a resort oriented property management company in 2005. Over the years, Darrin has worked with many professionals, business owners, entrepreneurs and individuals. These successful business experiences and valued client relationships are being utilized to enhance his fee-based financial consultant practice.
David Horlacher, CRFACertified Retirement Financial Advisor
David Horlacher has been involved in financial consulting for 5 years. He has a passion for helping people become financially successful and reaching their goals. Dave is enrolling in courses to attain the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) program at the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the most extensive financial planning credential in the industry.
Michael DahlquistAssociate Planner
Michael Dahlquist was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri and currently resides in St. George, Utah. He is a Business Management graduate of Brigham Young University – Idaho with emphasis in Finance and Management.
Tyler GatherumAssociate Planner
Tyler joined the Brock and Associates team in November 2010 as a junior associate planner. His studies included Finance and Information Systems at the University of Utah; graduating on the Dean’s List in May 2010. While in school, Tyler enjoyed working with a small business. His efforts and expertise helped the business grow to over one million in annual sales revenue.

Controller, Corporate Secretary
Michael brings with him a well diversified business, finance and accounting background with over thirty-five years of experience in varied industries as Controller, Vice President – Finance & Administration, Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Secretary & Treasurer and Member of Board of Directors for both public and privately-held corporations, primarily in Silicon Valley, California and the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
L. Mark Halstead, Jr., MFP, CFP, CSNP, CSA, CDFA
Director of Financial Planning, Training, and Compliance
Mark began his education at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and majored in accounting. He completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Phoenix, Las Vegas, and obtained his Master's Degree in Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning in Boulder, CO. Mark is a Certified Financial Planner®, Certified Senior Advisor®, Certified Special Needs Planner, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®, and has attended thousands of hours of continuing education in various aspects of financial services.
Suzanne Hock
Office Manager
Suzanne has had extensive experience in the management of companies and assisting in the development and enhancing the efficiencies of process flows within those companies. She is very enthusiastic about her work and feels comfortable at the helm of multiple projects. She has an enjoyable personality and sense of humor.
Derrick Anderson, ChFC
Technical Services
Derrick Anderson recently joined the technical services team for Brock and Associates. He manages the day-to-day technical operations of the firm including security and protection of client information, networking, and data-base management.
Necia Middleton, MBA
Client Services
Necia attended Southern Utah University where she received her undergraduate degree in finance and earned her Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA). Necia oversees Client Services for the firm. She is furthering her education by working toward her Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation.
Marie Fitzgerald
Administrative Assistant
Marie Fitzgerald recently received her bachelor’s degree in business management with an emphasis in human resource/organizational behavior, and marketing from Brigham Young University-Hawaii.
Tiffany Durrant
Administrative Assistant
Tiffany Durrant attended Dixie College and graduated from Southern Utah University. She is married to Tom Durrant and has four children. A welcome addition to the Brock staff, Tiffany works in administration in records management as well as assisting with office support.
Steve Walton, MBA
Client Services
Steve Walton oversees Client Services for Brock and Associates. Steve received his undergraduate degree in business administration and earned his master’s degree in business administration (MBA) at Utah State University. He is currently pursuing his professional education for his Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation.
